Sottomarina 6/21
Submitted by admin on Wed, 06/21/2017 - 21:46Day before Andrew's birthday.
Day before Andrew's birthday.
Been a long time since last sail. Beautiful day beautiful wind. Unexpected bottle over the side, so practiced man overboard procedures.. with we eventual success.
out to sea!
beautiful sailing day
went straight out off of sottomarina
got close to a large ship in the shipping lane (so we could read her name and the boys could draw her)
and then turned back,
anchored off of pellastrina, but sea a bit rough to swim by that time
headed back through the channel and to the marina
beautiful day of sailing
motored out through the channel
south along the coast, changed jib to larger, cruising at 4 knots or so
challenge one
just before entering channel on return, turnbuckle joint at buttom of inner shroud wire on starboard side, connected to structural deck strap popped lose with a bang
mitigate by pointing to wind with same side (pressure off shrouds on that side) and tied down with a short rope, then pulled down sails and motored back to darsena
Great sailing day, up and back in a pretty narrow channel.
Worked this weekend on:
Engine fluids, topped up oil, to drain and replace in the next month or so.
Re-worked electrical panel to get Solar PV and 12v devices up and working again.
Everyone took a turn at the tiller today!
With Massimo
- installed temporary replacement house battery
- installed new bilge pump
- rewired house/starter battery to combination switch near electrical panel (1 is start battery, 2 is house, selects which is source for DC panel)
With Andrew, working on electrical system and engine.
- removed two house batteries, to check capacity to charge at home
- tracking down source of fuel/water mix in bilge, coming from port side of engine near water / fuel pumps
- bilge pump outlet is broken, to replace pump
